Rev. Dr. Tim Hoyt Duncan
August 12, 1957 - May 7, 2020
Associate for Leadership Development, Presbytery of the James (2003-2006)
It is with sadness of heart that we share that Rev. Dr. Tim Hoyt Duncan died in early May. Tim was the presbytery’s associate for leader development from 2003-2006. He was a great colleague, wonderful supporter, and exemplar churchman.
Tim never took himself all that seriously but took his work and his calling very seriously. He supported the educators throughout the POJ as well as the educational ministries of our congregations.
One of the engaging parts of Tim’s time in the presbytery was working with Cindy Ruhl, Carol Schneider, and Bruce Harvey who were all educators in the POJ and Lisa Hedrick and Mary Lou McMillin from Shenandoah Presbytery on an overture to ordain educators in the PC(USA). Although the overture eventually failed, Tim’s commitment and encouragement to this work showed his support for Christian Education in our denomination.
From the time we first interviewed Tim for the associate presbyter position, it was obvious that he was a pastor and educator who cared so much for people and what they were going through. He was a true friend to so many.
We have been gifted to have worked with and known Tim. Our deepest condolences go to his wife, Nancy, and their families in this very sad time. To God be the Glory for this wonderful servant of Christ.
